Erich Johnson - Guitar Instruction

Erich Johnson - Guitar Instruction

A Los Angeles native, his initial forays into guitar were self-taught, learning classic rock and blues styles. He wandered the streets of Southern California playing with Beatles cover band "The Reason Why", studying with musicians from the Thornton School of Music while teaching at the famous Dietz Brothers Music. An exploration of the influences of those styles led him to diving into the world of classic and modern jazz.

Now in New York City, Erich is continuing his graduate studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music while gigging and teaching.

Erich has been teaching guitar for close to a decade and has taught thousands of lessons. His approach is rather fluid, based on the needs of each particular student. He understands how to balance what you need to know with what you want to know. Maintaining the fun and wonderment of playing guitar is paramount, but you will leave each lesson with a sense of accomplishment. Solid technique is emphasized, but with a relaxed and non-dogmatic approach. Each student is a unique person, with different experiences and goals.

Whether you are a casual, at-home player, or a performer, Erich can tailor the lesson to suit your needs.

Dean's List, Summa Cum Laude graduate of the Berklee College of Music. (Private instruction with Bruce Saunders, Garrison Fewell, Bret Willmott, Tim Miller and Mick Goodrick. Focus on jazz improvisation, harmony and voice leading, sight-reading, accompaniment, traditional and
modern jazz repertoire. Studied Advanced Harmony with Steve Rochinski, Daniel Ian Smith, and composition electives with Greg Hopkins.)
