Music Makers Premier Adult Band Ensemble Program will enhance your understanding of how a band works.  We’ll break down the songs in detail, stretch out, learn beginnings & endings, refine solos, rhythms, patterns & leads.  You’ll gain control over sound and technique, go over individual parts & combine them to create a better band sound.  Learn different ways to approach a song while gaining confidence as a player.  Play & learn from an advanced level instructor.  Each participant receives access to our student portal where you'll be able to access all class materials.

Know the basics of swinging but still want to explore deeper the richness of Jazz? This course is perfect for getting a deeper approach into the main elements of Jazz. We will be exploring areas such as: Jazz scales, minor and major Blues, rhythm and changes ("I got Rhythm"), Jazz chords, new ways of comping in a swing situation and a better understanding of the improvisation process: learning how to fit each chord in your soloing. Join this hot summer workshop and get to explore techniques, chord sequences, and rhythmic patterns to achieve an authentic blues-y feel using your instrument or voice! Vocalists, you will learn how to explore your vocal range and use different tone qualities commonly featured in blues. Bassists, will learn great patterns to groove within the blues structure and different time feelings such as playing behind the beat, shuffle or swing feel. Guitarists will develop a loose wrist to improve rhythm chops, i.e. when to mute, chicken scratch, or to sweep chords, how to use guitar, amp, and effect combos for different sections. Drummers, will learn how to develop a solid time feeling, when to play fills and how to use your instrument with dynamics and musicality. Keyboard players, let's explore how to play and switch between organ, piano and Rhodes, and we will also expand your chord voicings. Come join us and have fun in this workshop! Explore this unique and incredibly fun style of guitar playing by learning the various plucking, strumming, and brushing techniques that give the guitar that Chicken Pickin’ sound. We'll cover hybrid picking, palming, tremolo hand and finger effects, locking into picking patterns, and much more while analyzing the famous playing of pickers like Brad Paisley, Brent Mason, Chet Atkins, and Merle Travis.

In this 6-week workshop, we will boost your playing level and music understanding by exploring the different roles you can play in a band! This is especially valuable for guitar players who usually have to share with other guitars in the same group. You will learn the different parts/roles guitars can play in tunes (lead guitar, rhythmic guitar, soloist and bass lines as well!) and you will get to explore these different parts and switch roles within the band. This is a perfect opportunity to become a more versatile guitar player and also to explore playing the bass as the rhythmic and harmonic foundation of the band!

Classic Rock & Blues tunes will be covered. Are you currently taking lessons? No experience or limited experience playing with others? This workshop is for you! Learn the ins and outs of what's going on in each song. Determine what key the song is in, how to solo over the changes, find the right rhythm to play and sing along with the other instruments. This workshop does not involve a performance so you can focus on ensemble instruction and band dynamics.

Vocalists: feel the songs & work on getting the right vocal accompaniment without having to rush thru each song.
Guitar Players: learn how to use technique and effects to compliment or lead the band's sound. Bass Players: learn how to lay the rhythmic and harmonic foundation for the band.
Drummers: learn to lay the rhythmic foundation alongside the bassist, driving the band forward with percussion.
Keyboard players: enrich the band's sound with an assortment of synthesized sounds.

Let's open that music door together. You'll have fun making music in a non-judgmental, welcoming environment. A wide variety of rock and blues tunes are covered. Blues within Jazz W. Baden Goyo
This class will explore the differences between playing blues in a rock/folk context and playing it within a jazz framework. We will explore the characteristics that make the blues sound different in jazz music and will work on these elements one by one in order to incorporate those sounds into our playing. The focus will be on the harmonic changes and how it will provide the basic tools to improvise with a jazzy flavor. It's a great opportunity as a first approach to jazz music. All blues lovers are welcome to this workshop even if you don't have any experience with jazz before! Instructor: Baden Goyo

Students will explore the genre in a friendly, non-judgmental environment. This 101 course provides a first approach to the genre and its basic features. We will be exploring the most critical areas such as: Rhythmic feel, jazz harmonies, how to play along with the rest of the band (comping) in a swing situation and a brief introduction to the improvisation process. If you’ve never played the genre, this is a great opportunity for you to start!

This workshop will focus on playing all time greatest classic standards from Jazz. Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Mile Davis, Thelonious Monk and many other Jazz figures will be considered for selecting the final repertoire.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

We ask all workshop participants to please make every effort to attend all rehearsals.  If you're unable to attend any rehearsals, you are required to notify Music Makers NY via email musicmakersnewyork@gmail.com at least 48 hours in advance.  When registering, should you have a conflict with a rehearsal date, please make Music Makers aware of the conflict.  Not attending more than 2 rehearsals within an 6 or 8-week performance program can greatly affect the band as a whole.

Cancellation Policy: Once you submit the registration form & authorize payment to Music Makers NY your slot is guaranteed and reserved exclusively for you, therefore, all fees are non-refundable.  

Instrumentalists are guaranteed a slot for their particular instrument, not a vocal slot as well.

Performance Workshops:  We encourage everyone to take an active role in promoting their performance.
